That one thing with a circular shape

E3 has been too much for my gaming nerd inside to process. If it's not an awesome announcement, then it's something that's been left for a while and then brought back up. Like Splinter Cell: Conviction and Alan Wake, both of which look promising.

Of course there are other things like the extended trailer of Mass Effect 2 and Assassin's Creed 2, hell even Modern Warfare 2 has one. But the thing I want to pick up on is, yes you guessed it - Halo.

So Halo 3: ODST gets its debut gameplay trailer as well as demo footage. That is all well and awesome but totally unexpected was the announcement of Halo: Reach. Now I'll get back to ODST but I wish to talk about Halo as a whole first.

Halo is a franchise. I followed it every step of it's way, directly and indirectly. I remember when I first heard of it back in 1998/1999. It was still when it was planned to be a RTS for the Mac. Eventually I thought that Halo would be one of those games I like but won't become popular (lol). But that was still even before the game hit the Xbox.
This game evolved into something much greater than anything of it's kind. When you put your creative thought and spirit into something it leaves it's mark. You may elaborate on the reasons but somethings are good just because they are. Recently, for no apparent reason, I thought to install Halo again. Played some multi-player and it was great fun. And for the hell of it, I played a little from the campaign. I felt like a little kid. Do you know that feeling? A pure joy that's not corrupt and makes you giggle? I literally felt as if gaming today has forgotten what it takes for a game to be good, entertaining. I'm not talking about games like GTA IV, but even those sometimes lack a certain simplicity. You're given a set of rules and the only thing that makes a difference is your level of skill.

Halo 2 differs but I dare say I like that game too. Today "Halo" is a dirty word in the gaming world. Basically you can say there are three types of people out there: Those who hate the games due to their ambiguous reasons, those who have loved the first but then started disliking it from the second on and the third - people that see beyond the superficial and appreciate the series for what they are and what has Bungie put as creative genius. Of course, you can dispute to how many "types of people" there are out there. But that's not the point I suppose. To what I'm actually getting at is this - Halo became a trilogy and Bungie confirmed that in the third part "you finish the fight". But when they announced ODST, everybody jumped on the bandwagon, thinking that the company just wants to milk it's cash cow even further. When you think about it, if they are making quality games, why not? "Grr Bungie are so bad for making Halo games, doesn't matter they are good and we like them, it's just that it's Halo!". And looking at the demonstration of ODST, Bungie might be having something interesting on the way, some neat ideas are put into that game. But here's another deal - if the game is Halo-ish and yet it can hold on it's own as a game, why then shouldn't Bungie make an entirely new game? New franchise? They have the potential.
Well you see, the problem there is, you have no starting basis. All you have is that "You're the Halo maker" and that would be pretty much the marketing tag-line. New plot, setting, characters... While in the Halo universe you can mold these pretty easily. And for skilled developers it won't be hard to make a good game. But here we have Star Wars all over again. Hey those movies did great, let's make another trilogy set before the original one! And this is exactly what's happening with Halo as now "Reach" is announced.

Reach is probably the very last lemon bit they can squeeze out from the franchise. The last bit which will be worth something. Planet Reach is a turning point of the entire Halo plot. The first Halo is set right after those events. So when you think about it, it will be very epic to make a game of that. That is pre-Halo. Reach is that thing which only the NPCs sometime mention in-game. You could have only read about Reach in the book. In 2010 you'll have the opportunity to be in the middle of that.

I intentionally don't mention Halo Wars. I wish to stick to the core of Bungie's gem. So what do you think guys? Halo has spread out, and the little extensions which don't involve Master Chief somehow have even made the franchise mature. And even more oddly - that emphasizes on his 'heroic persona'. Call it "a test when other heroes are involved" and he passes.

It's getting late and I really need to go to bed... I might continue on this matter but I covered the basics which I wanted. Sorry for any typos, lazy to proof-read this atm.

New camera

So I went out and bought a new digital camera - Olympus FE-5000 10MP. It's great so far and by that is that I still haven't gotten used to all of it's modes and settings. I took some pictures and made a couple of videos. I am though, a little disappointed from the image quality. It's not bad but I expected a bit more from this class of a camera. My bone with it right now is that the image eventually blurs out, more like contrasting colors mix with each other like watercolor. That is, of course, when you zoom into the pic, but still the images lack a little sharpness. Also the noise is more apparent. Not too much, but before noise didn't really give me much of an impression with my last camera.

When I get to use the Olympus more (and outside) I'll do a better review of it. But in pretty much everything else - it's great! The UI is not too complicated or clogged up. You can even change the themes of the menus, the variety is little, but it's still a good touch. x5 zoom and there are two modes - normal zoom and enhanced - where enhanced gives you a bit more sharper zoomed pics but limits you to 5MP mode.

Anyhow, I'll save my breath for now, here are some random pics (their sizes have been shrunk down of course :P):

But one thing which I absolutely have to cover from this moment is...

Why the hell place the micro USB port on the bottom of the camera? Why? Sure laying down on either it's front or back is more stable but is that really how I'd like it?

Ehhh... Oh well, look at the snazzy carry bag I got to it too:

For now all I can say is that I am sliiiightly disappointed, but it's way better than my cellphone cam... And much much better than my previous broken digital camera. The Olympus FE-5000 is really great, almost gets everything right but trips up on such basic things...

Thecus® Unveils the N0204 miniNAS Device

"The tiny RAID-enabled portable network storage device with big ideas"
03/30/2009 – Big things are happening in the world of NAS devices. Today, Thecus® is proud to introduce the N0204 miniNAS device – the world’s smallest fully-featured NAS device.

Measuring a tiny 132 x 88 x 63 mm exterior, one could easily mistake the N0204 as a regular external hard drive. But look closer and you will see a very capable two-bay NAS device that fits right in the palm of your hand. The N0204 houses two 2.5” SATA hard disks, providing up to 1TB of storage. You can manage this storage with your choice of RAID 0, 1, and JBOD, making the N0204 the most robust pocketable storage device in existence. And because its drive bays are hot-swappable and feature auto-rebuild, you can change a hard disk without powering down the unit. The N0204 even comes with Thecus®’ Nsync for remote replication as well as the Thecus® Backup Utility for total data security. With huge storage, RAID functionality, and advanced data safeguards packed into a tiny device, the N0204 miniNAS is in a class all its own.

Tiny but mighty, the N0204 comes with many of the features and functionality possessed by its much larger cousins. For starters, the N0204 can function as a complete media hub with its built-in iTunes server, photo web server, and media server. With the built-in media server, you can enjoy your videos, pictures, and music with the N0204 by using any DLNA compliant media players. Plug in a USB web cam, and the N0204 turns into the world’s tiniest home surveillance server, allowing you to preview, capture and schedule image snapshots up to 640 x 480. Add to that support for both Windows and MAC OS operating systems and a whole new user friendly Windows Utility to easily set up and link the N0204 with your PC, and you’ve got some serious storage that you can whip out of your pocket and plug into virtually any network.

The N0204 miniNAS is a marvel of engineering. With advanced energy-saving capabilities, the N0204 only uses between 25~30% of the power compared to traditional two-bay NAS devices. You can even schedule power on/off for better power management. The N0204 also features whisper-quiet cooling, which means low temperatures and even lower noise during daily operation. A convenient USB 2.0 port in the front and the one-touch copy allow you to copy the contents of a USB storage device to the N0204 with a single button press. You can also copy data from the N0204 to any USB disk for data exchange. The N0204 supports USB printers, external hard disks, USB web cam, and even works with USB WLAN adaptors, allowing you to give this tiny NAS device wireless capability.

A complete NAS device in a form factor smaller than a paperback book, the N0204 miniNAS proves that great things do indeed come in tiny packages.

"When we tell people what the N0204 miniNAS can do, the most common reaction is disbelief followed by awe,” notes Thecus General Manager Florence Shih. "We've essentially created a fully-functional NAS device in a package that you can take anywhere.
Uptades and then some.

Right now I'm bored out of my mind... It's a bit late to go out anywhere, but earlier had crap to do, so yeah... Ever had one of those moment where you have a crap load of duties, but you don't know from where to start? Mostly because there is something you'd like to do first, but can't really do it at that moment. I find myself in that sort of situation at least once when I get more free time. The down side is that I end up wasting some time... Which happened today, but oh well.

Art wise, I've got too many things on my head, not to mention this contest popped up on DA:
http://news.deviantart.com/article/76573/

Thing is, it's worldwide so I'm tempted to join. Just need to get something good going and post it. May might be a turning point in my artistic history as I'll be picking up on my "professional qualities". Meaning, less alien chicks and more getting right down to business type of art. I know I've strained my few friends who are the only fans of WFS, but believe me guys, I haven't neglected the poor ole steel butts. It's not due to lazy, I just didn't feel "ready" for it when I started it... a couple or more years back, semi-officially. That and I don't really get the required time to draw something as time consuming. Some have told me that I have forgotten about that project, but believe me, last thing I'd do is to forget about WFS.

I want pick up more on posing, do portraits of people and other 'boring' aspects of the artistic learning curve. I feel where I need to improve and I know I can do it. Just to not be a prick, for those who are wondering about the next part of WFS: I can't really say when it'll be out, but I'll throw in a bone here - I do have scenes of it drawn, but don't expect teasers soon. I promise that there will be closure (to the extend which Act I can allow) and WFS has been more of a mind game than anything right now. The brains are going out, literally in the next part.

Well, first off, a few days back I took a walk with my sis and took pictures. Here are some of 'em:

There were quite a lot of swans and seagulls on the shore that day.

And here's a pic of my sis, she looks funny with that hat, dunno... Her face is almost unrecognizable in these photos XD

TETRAPODS TIME.

And here are the obligatory random pics:

This is the old "red ladder" it's been for longer than I have lived... Fuck your mountain climbing, going up that is us much scarier and harder, to why I love it.

Here's the view from up top:

It looks like a path but don't be fooled, it's a cliff and goes straight down.

This is in Sea Garden now:

There are more pics but these are the main ones I wanted to post. Anyhwo, anything else... Well I got a router - Buffalo Airstation. It's an okay router, had to reset it's setting twice now, but I blame the fact that it's still new so things are bound to be unstable (especially the weird service my ISP is giving me). Took pics of that too lol:

Speaking of photos, I've been having my eye on the Olympus FE-5000. At first it was the FE-20, due to it's low price, but found out that the FE-5000 is of a better quality build and better Li-ion battery. So here's the thing, it's a 10MP camera costing nearly 300leva (about $200). I did saw this Sony cybershot for 370leva, but it's 7.1MP. Of course it's got the Carl Zeiss lens and it's a Sony, but is it worth it? From all that I understand and hear from other people say is that the Olympus just makes more noise than the Sony and that's it's weak point compared to the Cybershot. Now my last camera was a Sony Cybershot 6MP and I must say I was happy with it - while it lasted. I'm not in a hurry to get a new camera, but as you can see, I like taking photos. Also I'm still curious to hear what you guys have to say on the matter and do you have recommendations on your own? Also the Olympus looks neat and stylish while the Sony (still) looks like a gray brick of ass.

So that's about it... My eyes hurt which is bad because I just got art intensive lately and can't really stop now...

An LJ post kinda like the last one.

Yesterday the weather was pretty nice. Went biking all day. In the afternoon I helped my other granny with grocery shopping and right after that I when up my other granny's property to clean up from leaves and stuff.

Here are some photos:

First I when to the water breaker and the docks. Here's some of the unloading industrial zone:

Small yachts and old ships:

While I was walking along the wall (which later on connects to the water breaker) I saw this fella:

"HLUUUUUUUU!"

This is from where our (the city's) beaches start. "South beach":

And here's the beginning of the water breaker:

This is one of my favorite spots. During the summer I like sitting on one of the tetrapods and sunbathe. With cooling off in the water. Fishermen usually use this spot but they don't bother me. There were also all sorts of small birds I wished to take pictures of, but they couldn't stop in one place :C

After this I went up to do the shopping I mentioned earlier. When that was done, I rode up to my other granny's property and made a few more pics:

I could have taken a lot more pics but it's kinda ass doing so with my cellphone's camera. My old digital camera got borked. But I'll be getting a new one soon, so yay.

So it's spring and all that bull.

Yesterday I went to tidy up a bit my grandmother's property outside the city. Been doing so for a couple of years now, she can't manage that place alone. Took some photos, but not much since I had an appointment later that day.

And like anywhere, I prefer going by bike. Not a fan of motorized transport.

Lol my bike. It's pretty old actually, had it since I was 13... Had at least three or four major fixes on it.

This is a photo just on the edge of the city, near my grandmother's property (which is exactly on the opposite direction where this photo is facing). Also the pictures themselves aren't too good since there are timber works nearby and people seeing me taking pictures can go "ARRGH INDUSTRIAL ESPIONAGE I'LL HAVE YOUR BALLS IN CUSTODY." But fuck them. Anyhow moving on.

lol

There's my granny.

PRETTY PRETTY FLOWERS.

This was taken on my way back.

So yeah, there you have it. I'll probably make more photos of that place soon. I was thinking on about ranting but don't really feel getting angry all over again since I've calmed down now.

Blah, random crap...

I barely get on LJ, just occasionally to check friend's entries... I've been doing "okay", though things have been stressful as usual. Started a course for captain's right for up to a 20ton vessel. I guess not a lot of people understand why I'm getting it and are like "Why the fuck you need that? D:". Well, Varna is a major seaport city and well... It comes in handy when you have the right to drive something a bit bigger than your grandpa's dinghie. Best to get this before I'm too busy with other stuff. Not that I'm not already...

School's been "blah". Need to fix two grades, but it's all still in the under control zone...

Was cleaning around and decided to open up my PC and give it's first real dust clean, took pictures of the process:

Here's the sucker with the huge ass fan removed:

Other views:

My "workplace"... with all the essential stuff like deodorant, croissant, a remote or two and... bleh see it for youself:

The lid with the fan:

I took off just the major components, didn't need to take out the HDD and DVD (and left the CPU cooler sink in too):

Ah yes, 3-D chicks on VGAs... Works real fine, happy with it this far. Now if it only scanned colored images better, I could have put away the old scanner. But oh well, not that big of a deal.

Well that's it for now.
LOLOLOL IS IT UPDATE TEIMZ NAO?

It is the VOAR MONSTA /that isn't rly into vore/ speaking.

Yeah I haven't typed shit in this for ages now. Well what can I say? Lots of political changes have accured, most of which "dramatic" but I still don't see that much of a change in the right direction. I had planned on making a big ass post about that, but never got around it.

School? School was a bitch, but right now I'll be aiming for them last grades for this year.

For those that don't know - yes finally I've decided on when to get a new PC. This July. I felt a bit stupid waiting for a new PC this long only to get a HD3870 which came out November... And hasn't even dropped in pirce that much either. But now ATi announced that their 4th HD series will be released this June. Which is a very good thing, those will fill the gap between the somewhat old 38xx series and the 3870X2. Real reason why I want an ATi is becouse of the price. God forbit an nVidia card to be not overpriced, especially where I live. Only nVidia product that'll be worth getting is the 9600, but it doesn't support high def video playback and HDMI like the ATi cards. Not to mention that the HD3870 outperforms it and the HD3850 is almoast on par with the 9600.

As for the HD48xx cards? Well the specs are out. First of all ATi have fixed their low TMU count from the OUCH 16 to a more moderate 32. But the nVidia G92 cores have like 52/64 so it's still a bit iffy for ATi. The ROPs are still 16 though... But I guess it's a compramise for having a "bang on the buck" product, I could imagene how more expencive these card would be with more ROPs.

The 4870 will have a shader core clock of over 1GHz (1050Mhz) and 2.2Ghz mem' frequency. It will also fancy 1GB of memory. So this is a pretty solid step up from the 3870. The prices are also announced so when I did my math - this card should cost 450-490leva here. My video card budget is up to 500leva so that's a good thing. In the VERY LEAST scenario I could get the 4850, but it's a bit closer to what's available now, so I do hope to get the '70 since it's much more of a "next step in ATi VGAs".

It's funny that there are more games already out that I wanna play than the games I'm looking forward to get when released. So when I get the new PC I'll have a big pile 'o (poo?) games to choose from. Gears of War, Crysis, Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty 4... and so forth. Oh, Mass Defect is comming out at the end of the month, so add that one on the list too.

ROIGHT.

Okay

Whoo, new post. Well crappy ass one like always.

Okay, first stop:

I has Gmod:

<lj-embed id="38" />

My first attempt ;o

You know what irritates me when it comes to some gamers? "Frames per second prancies". I mean seriously wtf. I'VE GOT NOTHING AGAINST SMOOTH GAMING, but sweet Jesus feet... There are people that complain when a game is running at 60 FPS... YES. That's a SIXTY like, six times ten. And that being described as "snatchy" or "ridget" or whatever they call it FPS... 60 FPS being choppy? Dude... I KNOW that online you need moar FPS so you have the best chances and ect. But let's concentrate on the single-player games.

When it comes to games, it's all about the gameplay - the most important part of it, OTHERWISE IT WON'T BE A GAME DU'H. And the frames per second are very important. Okay. The human eye can recieve 24 frames a second. Okay. So essentially the real world is "smooth" the way you see it with 24 FPS. So technically a game running at 25-30 should be quite smooth, right? Why yes it is. It will ensure you a very smooth gaming experience, IT WILL BE ENOUGH. Me personally? I'll be happy with a game running at 22 FPS... Now doesn't 60 FPS look a tad "distant"? You can see a slight differance between 35 FPS and 60 FPS, but it's too much of a little one. Now believe me, I've spent more than the needed time to experiment with the visuals of many games and I know what I'm talking about.

Recently I dug up and put Alien vs Predator 2 on my PC. It's a pretty old game, from 2001 and my PC is from 2005. My PC can practically run this games more than once at a time without tripping. And guess at what speed this game runs? 75 FPS max. Now obviously I couldn't force the FPS down easily to make a comparrison, but using FRAPS recording videos, compressing .rar files and ect. I made the game go down to 30~FPS. And guess what: it was still playable; yes it wasn't as smooth BUT hardly something to go mad about.

So I don't understand what's the deal with people that have a PC many times better than mine, can already run Gears of War on MAX at 40-50 FPS go all like "OOAAHHH I think on getting a new video card and maybe a new CPU cuz the games on my PC LAG A LITTLE BIT... on 1920x1200 with x4 AA and x8 Antisotrophy...". What the hell!? Why would you need AA at 1920x1200? Antisotrophy maybe... But... If the games are running 28-35 at those settings... Then what's the problem? Drop the filters if it's that much of a deal D: I don't even want to know what ammounts of money such people give only to get +5 more frames and to play with overrated filters. Though sadly I already do. I PLAY UNREAL TOURNAMENT III AT 320x200 RESOLUTION WITH EVERYTHING TO MAX, RUNNING AT 28-30 FPS. YES, IT LOOKS HORRIBLE. But it's livable, believe me. And actually, I pwnd on that game more with those settings, rather than with everything on low and medium at 1024x768.

Dear Lord, I just want a decent new PC so it can run decently, while others make their new PCs even newer and bitch again on how much their machines "sucked" =l And I'm sure you people don't want me to remind you that stuff over here is more expencive with about 15%-20%.

Okay, that's for now. I really hope I get around making a LJ with stuff that's more worth reading... About my hair for instance!

Merry Christmas and stuff

Merry Christmas. May all of your dreams come true :o

Just as any Christmas, me and my dad had to do some wacky shopping. It's never really detirmened by the fact that Christmas arrives, but it always seem to occur bang on time.

First we whent to buy some groceries - mainly fruits such as bananas, mandarins and kiwis. New mouse pad and other misc stuff like that. We forgot to buy some shampoo though :( Oh poo...

After that we decided to visit a tech hypermarket to see what sort of stuff is on sale for the holidays. As always, those back-butt massage thingies are on desplay the moment you walk in... Those things scare me... EVERY TIME I go there and see those... things... moving... *shiver* Anyhow, we whent to see the laptops which lead us to the gaming consoles. There were a bunch available for demo play - a game cube, Wii, PS2 and a PS3. The PS3 had LAIR running on it. Finally got to see a Wii up close and personal, it's even smaller than I thought! I was purely dwarfed by the PS3 too XD And oh damn, did my dad make fun of the PS3... Totally made the barbeque joke.

Right when we walked into the store, an employe told us about a promotion they had. Minute later another employe came up to us for the very same thing. A third one walks by and I tell my dad "Look, I'll use my brain powers to make that persone come to us and say "Welcome to Technomarket, here is a brochure of our promotions!" and it so happened XD We got stopped like this alteast five times.

After the consoles and laptops we whent to see how the PCs were doing... Dear god, terrible, terrible and even more terrible... Not to mention that the ones on desplay had some of their pads and stuff removed from the case. Very ugly stuff and complete fail to see in such an advertised chain of tech stores. We moved on to the gaming accesories and there were these "Pro classic" gamepads XD A huge blue plastic brich with silver analog stick and two huge buttons that could easily double as a gas cap on a car. But of course there were the normal and occasional joysticks, most of which were PS2 like controllers. And at that point I buckled and decided to take one for myself. Though I didn't like how any of the PS2 like controllers felt in my hands, so I picked a 360 styled one. Pretty slick! Has a nice rubber-like surcafe, so it's very comfy holding it. But I pretty much preffered the 360 one becouse the analog sticks are more far appart. What can I say I HAVE KEBABS FOR FINGERS.

Then we moved on to the most favored from most people part in a hyper tech store - the big ass LCD and plasma TV sections! They even had a few Xbox 360s hooked to one of THE biggest ( bigger than 51" ) TVs with Forza motorsport demo running and there was a blue-ray player too. Though at the moment it wasn't playing anything XD And no - the 360s weren't available for a demo play. ONLY LOOK BUT NO TOUCH. But eww, I really wouldn't touch that... Some of the TVs that is... Obviously the stores is in some sort of dire times becouse even the $10 000 TVs were filthy! Yes! And I don't mean a little spot or anything - some of them ( including the really big ass ones ) looked as if someone decided to tie them to their truck and whent to race in Dakkar... The biggest Samsung looked as if it had MUD ON IT. MUD. ON A $12 000 LCD TFT HDMI TV. I suppose that the store was in a rush due to the upcomming ( current ) holidays, but... Couldn't they just... Take a towell... And just clean TO A DEGREE one of their most priced items... More than half the staff I saw that day was just sitting around, waiting for someone to ask about their lane of items... But mostly sat there. With a very blank gaze in their eyes.

So yeah, undoubtably fail.

After these series of mega fails, me and my dad found out that only the refrigerators, washing machines and vacuum cleaners were OK that day XD

Got back home, got to test my gamepad. I'm quite happy with it. Currently I have only Guilty Gear to with it, but that's enough for me. It was really funny at first - with the gamepad I can do all of these crazy ass complex moves ( moves that you cannot make with a keyboard ), but since I'm not used to playing with a controller I completely failed at the most basic stuff XD But after a while I got the hang of it. Quite fun.

I'd go on blabbering about other stuff, but for now I think that this post is enough poison for your holidays. So - merry Christmas to everybody!

GUILTY GEAR MUSIC GET! Those who like the guitar and love rock - this is the game soundtracks for you!

First I plan on posting a few of some of the GG games I have. And if you guys actually like this shit, I might upload the whole "albums" if you want. Though I assure you, these are one of the best you'd hear in the games:

GUILTY GEAR X TRACKS:
http://download.yousendit.com/F5321A5B7865DE33

http://download.yousendit.com/F22F16453D10EF4A

http://download.yousendit.com/144D54AA42F7FAEB

http://download.yousendit.com/63ABC35012F13A41

http://download.yousendit.com/056AE3E154C18DC1
( Note that this last one is tad more slow and "emotional", but I like this sort of tracks. So sue me )

GUILTY GEAR: XX#Reload:
http://download.yousendit.com/DA25E6C27E42BC8D

http://download.yousendit.com/B17D491727E1A7BF

http://download.yousendit.com/979386044B220E1F

Guilty Gear: Isuka:
http://download.yousendit.com/C2FF4CD8360FA5C6

http://download.yousendit.com/A90BBCEE3F8A64F2
This one may start of "scary" at first but it kicks off after a minute in.

Honestly? The GG series has the most fitting to it game sountracks ever.

Have a pleasent time listening! :0

VIDEO GAMEZ RANTINGNESS

Yay, video game post!

Here's a list of the games I plan on playing when and if I get a new PC:
Crysis
Bioshock
Devil May Cry 4
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear sky ( might even play the original game too, with added graphics mods )
Gears of war
Halo 2?

Maybe Call of Duty 4 too. But those are the ones I'll be playing for certain ( still dunno about Halo 2 tho', reason why I put a question mark there ). Most likely I'll get more games than that after newer titles come out. But isn't it all a bit silly too? I really want to get a new PC but also my father's speech about video games has been getting in my head too much lately. Quite frankly at certain moments I don't know how I feel about video games anymore. I know I've been ranting about this too much but hell, it's my journal. Besides, people don't seem to be reading this much either.

At some points I feel completely "liberated" from video games and look on them as a general waste of time. But that's becouse I no longer have as much spare time as I used to and today I can always find something more important to do than playing. Sadly, there are the moments where the gamer within me goes all like "D:". I mean seriously... Video games ARE a waste of time IF you're doing nothing else at all. Waste of resourses if you spend a heap of money solely for that purpouse.

Thing is this: video games are an integral part of modern entertainment as much as movies are and ect. I mean, it's a multi BILLION business made out of software and hardware. I mean, PC gaming is what proppells hardware sales. But not to get too off topic... Video games are FUN and must be dealth with a degree of responcibilaty AND measure. Me? I'm fully satisfied to play one or two hours a day. Recent times I get to play 30 minutes once on every FEW days. If we average it out, that's no more than 5-6 hours a MONTH.

The million dollar question is this: Obviously at the moment my gaming life is at it's demise... But should I invest in a last gaming rig, enjoy the current and "next gen" games and then lay off video games OR to give it all up right now? The "easiest" option would be the latter. But is it really so? Video games have both changed and stayed the same for a while. Once I used to wonder what games would be like in the future and I had a sort of an idea which I found to be pretty cool. Ironically this "future" is now. I mean seriously... Gears of war, Bioshock, Crysis... And lets not include the titles that aren't out yet.

So what's the cost? Currently a good gaming rig over here can be bought for 1200leva. But here's another dilemma: buy now, or wait for the prices to drop? Essentially, when is the moment you stop waiting for the "best hardware at the best price"? It's a never endig wait! I can go right now and buy the said configuration for 1200leva, but if I put an extra 200, I can get a QUAD core than a duo core. 1400 too spiffy? Well it's supposed that after January the quad cores will start dropping in price. But oh no! The moment when you're about to get your even longer awaited 1200leva PC then something else better is out! Then you wait for IT to drop a bit in price becouse it's rediculously expencive. Morrow of the story? You have to be either a rich basterd that buys the newest thing which becomes half price almoast the moment you buy it OR wait and buy cheaper but "older" PCs...

Well for me this wait can't go on any longer. My initial plan is to have a PC which will serve me well gaming wise for no longer than 2 years. But do you know where I'll be two years from today? In short, determing my path in this life and I sure as hell won't have the time for video games. Or maybe I will. But I doubt I'll keep on being a gamer in my mid 20s, 30s...

So... The beggining of 2008... It's either a new PC or no go with gaming. And no, no consoles. I believe I've stated my mind about consoles.

MOOVEH POUST

So I just felt like doing a post about the last couple of movies I've seen.

First up:
"Room 1408"

Featuring Samuel L. Modafokin' Jackson and that fat guy who's name I always seem to forget. Now this is a nice horror flick that I'm glad I watched. It's more of a "mindfuck" movie, very Silent Hill-ish. It's about this "ghost hunter" that goes around and examines "haunted" buildings and ect. when one day he gets an odd invitation... Not to spoil much, he looks it up and finds this room in a hotel, numbered 1408. Now the movie has it's cliche horror movie bits, but it sure has some original ones as well. But all in all the movie is about making you go "WTF?? Oooooooh." and feeds your thirst of getting your brain screwed. My main complaint about the movie? Too much CGI. Like too much of that shit. I swear, if the movie was done in the 80s it'll look much more realistic and even scarier. CGI just makes somethings in the movie look plain silly. And all of those things can be done with real objects and effects.
In overall, I give this movie a thumbs up! A must see if you like horror.

Second:
"Resident Evil: Extinction"

Yep, the zombie-ass-kicking hooker is back with even cheaper hooker rags than ever! And boy are those some rags! Actually... I think she's least naked in this part if we exclude the moments she's completely naked. Milla Jovovich takes once again as the role of Alice and the acting is pretty much the same as the previous parts. Now is the moment where I add that I actually rather enjoyed this part. I'm not some Resident Evil video game series fan ( Have plaid only RE4 actually ) and liked the first movie to a degree. But what "Extinction" accomplishes is something I've always seeked for in a "zombie apocalypse" scenario and that is desolation. Always running being the only way to survive, risking your life to check out foodstores and gas stations for supplies, having some sort of a radio to make contact with a possible survivor and whatnot. These things are in full use in "Extinction" and builds up for a slightly more mature atmosphere in this part, though you do get a decent ammount of Holywood bullshit. Main complaint? The ending.
In overall, I give it a thumb up! Not two thumbs, but the movie adaptation of the "Resident Evil" franchise has evolved over the course of time.

Last but definately not least:
"Hot Fuzz"

Yes I know, it's been out for a while, yes, yes... But holy crap am I ever glad I decided on finally watching this movie. There aren't enough action parodies around. "Hot Fuzz" is a lovable silly movie which hits on the overly cliched action movies, ranks up in humor AND makes a goofy storyline which is interesting to a moderate degree. Now don't let all of them critiques get you! The movie is good. It's two hours long and for one reason or the other it kept my giggling the whole time, except for the moments where I lolled. It has a bit of british humor in it ( it is a brit movie ) but it doesn't take to be a brit' to understand what's going on. But beyond that, the movie is packed with both universal silly type of humor and a more detailed one where you'd need to pay attention to catch all the funnies.
This isn't a direct parody, like "Scary movie" for instance. It's a movie on its own while "naturally" making fun of most of the action movies out there and taking things way out of proportion. First half of the movie you get fed with info with funnies in-between while things start to take a twist and speed up in the second. Some people complain that the movie is too sluggish while it really isn't. It would have been BAD if things were just thrown at you in a jiffy without you even able to understand what's going on.
Watched it twice, might watch it for a third time becouse my sis hasn't seen it and I did recommend it to her. My complaints? Well... I know I said that the movie ISN'T sluggish, but it does get you when you watch it more than once. Not falling into the fad of "lots of shooting and blood everywhere" is good but the movie could have used some more raw fun.
In overall, two thumbs up! An "intellectial" action-parody not quite for the whole family!

OK so here's a more reasnoble post...

OK, here's a more "reasnoble" post, since it would seem that my LJ is starting to gather dust...

Been busy with studying. If I'm not working out or doing chores - most likely I'm doing it the nerd way. But it's been paying off, so I can't complain.

I got Unreal Tournament III and when I have one of those rare moments, I get to play a bit. God has it been a long time since I had a hardcore gamergasm... Nothing like a crapload of senseless shooting and watching the chat messeges fill up with accusation against me, stating that I'm cheating... Of course, I'm not. But I personally take it as a compliment.

Speaking of PC gaming... New PC hardware has came out over the last month or so and prices have changed quite a bit. I'm still thorn between wether getting a new PC or not. But I think that if I were to make anything like that, I'd wait for New year to pass, becouse on January ATi will release their HD3870 X2 and nVidia might finally get their shipping problem solved so I can compare the 8800GT's price with ATi's products. The 8800GT looks rather aluring, but without the thing being available here, I can't really judge it's price-to-performance ratio. Right now the ATi HD3870 512MB looks and sounds like a pretty promicing product. People over here alone have gone nuts testing it out and discussing it on forums. The 3870 is rather powerful, reliable and for those pinky-ear princesses - it's much more quiet than the HD2900. But I'm mostly astonished by it's price - just 430 leva. I'm particularly interested in Saphire's version, it has the best fan type as far as I've heard and read. But I'd like to see the X2 version released first, becouse that one will be the "high-end" card and see how those two fare up against the 8800GT performance and price wise.
But for now with what the 3870 stands out are PCI-2 and DX10.1. Not as if we'll see DX10.1 anytime soon but the PCI-2 means that those with a PCI-2 motherboard will have a bigger information trasnfer rate. Which practically will boost and use up the performance of the card better.

And oh, a question to the tech portion of my friends - what do you think is more practical? 2GB of DDR2 (800Mhz) Kingston for 112 leva (about 90$) or 4GB of DDR2 (800Mhz) A-data for 130 (100$)? A-data isn't bad RAM at all, actually the reason why it's so cheap it's becouse it gets good market so the pricetag plummited. But on the other hand, Kingston is a certified brand but is it that much of a good RAM brand so I go with 2gigs instead of 4? And what'll be the whole deal of wether to have 2 or 4? Now I'm quite aware of the differences set here, but I'd like to hear you guys's full opinion on this. 2gigs and dual-core CPUs are getting replaced by 4gigs and QUADRO-core CPUs. Not that I'll poop 300leva for the cheapest four-cored CPU, but getting a new PC with 4GB of RAM sure sounds DELICIOUS. MMM NOM.

Now onto the weather - yay, rain, rain, snow, wet snow, rain, winds, winds, OHMERCIFULGODS DA WINDS and some more wetness and soakness. Atleast when I go walking my dog, there are barely any people around which makes things all more enjoyable... But once spring hits and the tourist season comes, I'll have to get used to lots of people and overreacted shocked looks ( I has a rotwailer ) and dealing with all sorts of dumbness. OH GOD, I JUST SAID "DUMBNESS"...

So yeah, other than that things are pretty much ok. And lol, holidays aproach... MAN THE HARPOONS! D:

P.S. Dante is a fish-lipsed, cowboy boots wearing late-purbirty fuck D:

Ok, so a few days ago I decided to download teh Crysis single-player demo. Just for the hell of it. No, it doesn't look like crap with all settings on LOW ( LOL ) and actually the game still looks surprisingly decent at certain moments. But in other moments, it's eye torture....

IT HAS BEEN SAVED! Yep, that's how the game looks with everything to LOL at 800x600. Getting around 24 to 30 FPS.

As you can see from the last screenshot, it doesn't look half-bad. But I'd first get a new PC before I decide to play the full game. If not mx graphics, atleast on high settings it'll be just sweet only to stare at the game. And oh, funny story: before I whent to the graphics options, I decided to click the Autodetect option. After it set everything to LOL, the game didn't let me change any of the setting from then on! XD Couldn't click on anything that's different from LOL.

So anyhow, onto the game itself:

GAMEPLAY:
First of all, about the whole "Crysis being too much like FarCry". Yes, it has a similar motif. Yes it has some similarities and "de-ja vu" moments which make you go "Hey, haven't I plaid this game before" ( for those that have plaid Far Cry ). But essentially, that's where the similarities stop. Saying that Crysis is just like FarCry, is saying that Bioshock is like SystemShock and so on. In both cases the games look alike and follow certain design charectaristics, but pretty much - they are all titles on their own. Not complete copies of the previous ones.

But enough about that. Crysis's gameplay is much more evolved and pefrected than its predecessor. And the major change is indeed the customization of your weapons and most of all - the super duper high tech suit you're wearing. Being given a number of choices, you can make up all sorts of tactitcs and plans. Some more efficient than other and ect.

Iiiiiit's PUNCHIN TEIM!

First off - the suit. You guys probably already know what it can do. You can switch between these modes: High speed (moving really quickly), heavy armor (suit energy takes damege), super strenght (throwing stuff and people far, jumping high and no weapon recoil), and cloak (invisable). There is no "armor" in this game, only the power of your suit ( which regenerates on its own ). That energy drains up depending on which mode your suit is set to and what you're doing. If you're sprinting in High speed mode, it's getting drained. If you're getting shot at when with Heavy armor, it gets drained and so on.

This is my foot. Do you like it?

Depending on the situation, the suit will change its mode after its energy gets depleted. If you were in Cloak mode, usually after it drains out, the suit changes to something like Heavy armor. Or if you're firing it could change to additional strenght. A very basic tactic is to use High speed to get closer to the enemy, go Cloak, shoot with the silencer on, use super strenght to jump ontop of a makeshift house, cloak and then decide how to continue of from there.

Now the weapons: You start off with your fists, a wanna be Mk23 SOCOM pistol and a crappy futuristic XM8. In the demo you have a limited range of accesories you can chose from. On the assoult rifles ( there are only two in the demo - the one you start off with and the AK ) you can mount a silncer, reflex sight, flashlight and for the XM8 - a dart shooting thing that makes people sleepy. And on the pistol you can put laser dot sight and silencer.

This is so Halo-ish.

First thing I noticed is that with the XM8 ( assoult rifle you start off with ) you can shoot someone in the torso as much as you'd like and he won't die. He might yell a bit, but no blood. Gotta shoot the fucker in the head if you want to actually kill him. Not that it's a bad thing, but that guy wasn't even wearing body armor... So pretty much I took the AK becouse it did a better job as a GUN to, you know, KILL people. By no means I'm saying that the AK's a noob weapon, just saying that in the demo I wasn't impressed by the XM8.

Futuristic, Chinese copy-cat AK assoult rifles... Gotta love 'em...

Once you pick up another pistol, you will dual-wueld those. For some reason I think that dual pistols suck and you're kinda forced to have those with the red-dot sights on, becouse you can't iron-sight while holding two pistols. I'm not sure, but I think you can't switch back to having only one pistol.

AHAHHAA, I SCREENSHOTTED YOU!

In the demo you get to drive around some jeeps and boats. But those are just for added fun and demo-ness, not really needed for in the begining of the game. The A.I. is... Well it's not bad, it does act "smart". Takes cover, throws grenades and whatnot. But sometimes it was really predictable. You can even manipulate them to do the same thing over and over. I made one particular badie, to run back to the exact same rock and throw a grenade in the exact same direction THREE times. And probably I could have made him do a fourth time.

He's dead, Jim.

But just as I predicted, the demo confirmed one major expectation of mine about Crysis. I'm talking about the "screwing around" factor. Admit it, you loved whacking dead stuff in Half-Life 2 and throw PCs at the rebels! But unlike most games, where you need cheats and codes for you to "screw around"; in Crysis you're GIVEN the abilaties needed to do stupid senseless shit. Able to throw people off a cliff, able to throw people at OTHER people, punch Humvees when they are driving straight towards you, so on and so on.

If some of you actually think on getting the full game: invite some friends over, fill the glasses with some drinks and fire up that Crysis son of a bitch and you'll have quite the afternoon.

HIS ASS IS GRASS... AND FACE TOO.

GRAPHICS:

...

...

IT IS SO BEEAAUUUUTTTTTEEEEFFFUULLL.

Omg, my leg again!
